BHP is a diversified global resources company producing iron ore, copper, steelmaking coal and nickel, and is developing a new potash operation in Saskatchewan, Canada. Its major operations span Australia, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Canada and the United States, including the long-running Western Australia Iron Ore business, which BHP describes as the lowest-cost major iron ore producer globally. More than 80,000 employees and contractors work across the company's sites, and BHP states it is the world's largest mining company by market capitalisation. Copper now generates over half of BHP's underlying earnings, up from a smaller share historically.
