Job Description
The Senior Financial Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting at Tasiast Mine. Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role is responsible for managing financial statements and the related complex accounting activities, intercompany transactions, IFRS & Plan Comptable Mauritanien (PCM) ledgers, regulatory reporting, inventory and GRNV reconciliation, working capital reporting, and internal controls.
Key Areas of Responsibility and Duties
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Review and post monthly standard journal entries, including sales, royalties, taxes, prepayments, intercompany transactions, interest expense and income, tax declarations, finance leases, departmental accruals, depreciation, asset capitalization, and ad hoc manual journals.
• Monitor complex accounting operations, including metal inventory valuation, inventory obsolescence, and foreign exchange revaluation.
• Ensure timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving anomalies.
• Prepare and review outstanding (O/S) journals and populate continuities for the cash flow statement.
• Provide financial insights by analyzing variances between actual, budget, and forecasted results.
• Prepare the quarterly Corporate Reporting Pack and related disclosures.
• Prepare and review the statutory financial statements under Plan Comptable Mauritanien (PCM), ensuring reconciliation between the IFRS and PCM ledgers.
• Monitor developments in IFRS, assess the impact of new or amended standards, and prepare technical accounting memoranda to support significant judgements.
Intercompany Accounting & Recharges
• Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations, ensuring proper accounting treatment across multiple entities.
• Oversee recharges to other group subsidiaries for costs incurred by Tasiast.
• Ensure intercompany eliminations are accurately recorded for consolidated financial reporting.
• Monitor intercompany balances and settle discrepancies through timely reconciliations and corrective entries.
• Maintain compliance with transfer pricing policies and tax regulations.
Inventory, GRNV & Goods in Transit
• Maintain the monthly GRNV (Goods Received Not Vouchered) account analysis and resolve aged items in collaboration with Supply Chain and Finance.
• Analyze and investigate Goods in Transit for both goods and non-stock items, ensuring timely resolution of old items.
• Develop, implement, and document internal controls for the management of GRNV and Goods in Transit.
• Review freight in inventory and landed cost allocations, ensuring accurate cost absorption.
• Maintain inventory listings and reconcile to the general ledger through Cardex and Rapid Reconciler.
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items between Cardex and the general ledger.
• Oversee the maintenance of general ledger class codes on inventory items.
• Calculate and review slow-moving and obsolete inventory provisions, ensuring compliance with accounting policies.
• Maintain detailed backup for any inventory write-offs for external and tax audit purposes.
Fixed Assets
• Manage the full fixed asset accounting cycle, including asset capitalization, transfers, disposals, impairments, and depreciation calculations.
• Coordinate periodic physical verification of fixed assets and investigate discrepancies.
• Maintain detailed supporting schedules for capital additions, disposals, and depreciation for audit purposes.
• Review the fixed asset register and the asset capitalization report for completeness and accuracy.
• Review the DGI (Direction Générale des Impôts) statutory reporting requirements relating to fixed assets (tableau des immobilisations, amortissements, plus-values et moins-values de cession).

- Functional job skills
• 8+ years of experience in financial accounting, reporting, inventory reconciliation, and internal controls, preferably in the mining, natural resources, or industrial sector.
• Experience of ERP accounting packages, preferably JDE.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) an asset.
• Ability to learn quickly and act on new information.
• Expertise in GRNV account management, goods in transit reconciliation, landed cost allocations, and inventory provisions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
• Highly detail-oriented with a strong understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and partner with operational teams for financial decision-making.
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS, with the ability to research technical issues and document accounting positions.
• Familiarity with Plan Comptable Mauritanien (PCM) and Mauritanian statutory and DGI reporting requirements, or the ability to acquire it quickly.
• Experience of consolidation and group reporting systems (e.g., OneStream) an asset.
• Experience coaching, supervising, or reviewing the work of junior accountants.

- Qualifications
• Degree from an authorized institution in finance, corporate finance, business administration, accounting, economics or other closely related courses.
• A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CA, or Expert-Comptable), or significant progress toward one, is strongly preferred.
• Experience in a fast-paced, multinational environment.
