Heavy Diesel Fitter / HD Mechanic

Tradespeople who service and repair the heavy mobile fleet: haul trucks, excavators, dozers, drills and underground loaders. One of the most advertised trades in mining.

What it involves: Scheduled servicing, breakdown repairs and component change-outs, either in a workshop or on a field service crew working on machines where they stand.

Typical requirements: A heavy diesel (heavy duty mechanic) trade qualification or an overseas equivalent. Experience on the same machine makes the site runs, such as CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi or Liebherr, is often asked for.
