Rio Tinto's newest and most technologically advanced iron ore mine, Gudai-Darri sits roughly 110km north-west of Newman on Banjima country. The $3.1 billion operation began production in 2022 and reached its full run-rate of 43 million tonnes a year within 12 months, with upgrades under way to lift capacity toward 50Mtpa. The site carries more than 70 design innovations and draws about a third of its power from an on-site solar farm.
