LKAB's Kiruna mine is the world's largest underground iron ore mine, beneath Sweden's northernmost city in Norrbotten County. In operation since the early 1900s, the mine has shaped the city so completely that LKAB is now relocating large parts of Kiruna itself to allow continued mining, with nearby deposits also holding one of Europe's largest known rare earth resources.
