Europe's largest primary gold mine, Kittilä is an underground operation in Finnish Lapland, about 150km north of the Arctic Circle. In commercial production since 2009 — Agnico Eagle's first mine outside Canada — the site processes refractory ore through pressure oxidation and carbon-in-leach circuits, and since 2023 has run on 100% wind and nuclear electricity.
