McArthur River Mine is an open-cut zinc, lead and silver operation in the Gulf of Carpentaria region of the NT, about 65km from Borroloola and roughly 970km by road from Darwin. Operating since 1995 on a resource first identified in the 1880s, the mine trucks lead concentrate 800km to the Mount Isa smelter and ships zinc concentrate via the Bing Bong loading facility.
