Australia's only magnetite iron ore mine still producing pellets, Savage River sits about 100km south-west of Burnie in Tasmania's north-west. Magnetite was first identified here in 1887, with mining development starting in 1965, and the site now anchors Grange Resources' integrated mine-to-pellet operation — Australia's longest-running iron ore pellet producer.
