Job Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the Mine Engineer supports the development and implementation of short- and long-term mine plans for an underground mining operation. This role applies sound engineering principles to mine design, scheduling, and operational planning while working collaboratively with Technical Services and Operations to improve safety, efficiency, and production performance. The Mine Engineer contributes to engineering studies, mine construction, operational improvements, and continuous development of mining practices.

Essential Functions

• Develop and maintain short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans, schedules, and production forecasts under the guidance of senior engineering staff.

• Prepare underground mine designs including development layouts, stopes,  and mine infrastructure,

• Support the integration of ventilation, ground control, mine services, geology, operations, and maintenance into practical mine plans.

• Assist with engineering studies, technical evaluations, and capital projects.

• Prepare engineering drawings, technical reports, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.

• Support geotechnical and hydrogeological assessments by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting engineering data.

• Reporting and analysis of production data and planning information.

• Monitor mine development progress and compare actual performance against plan, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.

• Participate in planning meetings and provide engineering support to daily, weekly, and monthly planning activities.

• Assist in preparing scopes of work and evaluating contractor and consultant proposals for engineering-related projects.

• Monitor engineering activities to ensure compliance with MSHA regulations, company standards, and environmental requirements.

• Support budgeting activities through cost tracking, production analysis, and engineering estimates.

• Research and recommend improvements to mine planning processes, engineering practices, and operational efficiency.

• Perform field inspections to verify mine conditions, conduct ventilation surveys, validate designs, and provide technical support to operations.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering

• 3 years of underground mine engineering experience or equivalent experience.

• Experience with underground mine planning, mine design, and production scheduling.

• Proficiency with Deswik mine planning software or similar mine design and scheduling software.

• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.

• Working knowledge of underground mining methods, mine ventilation, ground control, drill and blast practices, mine water management, and mine infrastructure.

• Understanding of mine planning principles, production scheduling, and mine economics.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical reports, and operational data.

• Knowledge of applicable MSHA regulations and mining industry best practices.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

• Valid driver's license and authorization to work in the United States.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000
